Colleen was headed for a career in urban planning and property development when a twist of fate altered her course. When a movie was shot in the Hardwick family home in Victoria, Colleen determined that it looked more interesting planning movies. Within two years she became a Location Manager, identifying locations and acting as the point person between film companies, municipalities and the general public. She quickly ascended through the ranks, becoming a Production Manager in 1988, and by 1992 had founded her first company, New City Productions. Her first film, “City Boy” was nominated for an Environmental Media Award for increasing environmental awareness in a TV Movie, and since then, Colleen has won numerous other awards, accolades and professional recognition including:
- Best Children’s Film for “Mr. Rice’s Secret” in Northern Ireland, Iran, Czech Republic, Mexico and UK together with invitations to 50 international film festivals in 1999
- Named one of the “13 Most Important People in the B.C. Film Industry” by the Financial Post in 1998.
- Named on of Business in Vancouver’s “40 Under 40” for entrepreneurship in 1997
- Member of the Vancouver Board of Trade’s Film Advisory Task Force 1995-1996
- Member of Industry Canada’s Small Business Advisory Council 1994 – 1995
- Nominated for a YWCA “Women of Distinction Award” for Entrepreneurship in 1994
- Nominated for an Environmental Media Award for “City Boy” in 1994
